Treadmill for MSK Services

23/05/24

Our MSK (Musculoskeletal) team based at Malton Hospital rehabilitates patients aged 18 and above for a range of conditions: some post-surgery, some suffering with chronic pain and general debilitation with the aim off restoring movement, confidence and function.

In 2023 they identified the need for an additional treadmill for their MSK gym within Malton Hospitalto support patients’ rehabilitation and encourage a way back to fitness. “We work with patients of all ages to develop rehabilitation plans for a wide variety of MSK conditions,” said Annabelle Armitage,Advanced Specialist Physiotherapist Practitioner.

“Some of our younger patients are rehabilitating from anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction or lateral ligament repair or similar surgeries. Getting them running on the treadmill as post-surgical protocoladvises helps them to recover for full function and sport.”

“With some of our elder patients, walking on the treadmill helps to restore confidence and build up exercise tolerance. In our spinal rehabilitation group, cardiovascular fitness is important and the treadmill assists with this, alongside the bike and stepping machine.

“These are just a few examplesof how the treadmill can assist in the rehabilitation on our patients. It is an essential piece of equipment which will be an asset to our service.”

The Charity Manager said, “Granting this Wish would not have been possible without the amazing support and sponsorship of MaltonHospital League of Friends.

“The treadmill will benefit so many patients and we, along with the Malton League of Friends, were delighted to have been able to support this Wish to enhance patient care at Malton Hospital.”
