Stroke survivors with communication difficulties can now continue their therapy at home thanks to equipment funded by Health Stars.
The Community Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) team in Scarborough, Filey, Ryedale, Whitby, and Pocklington received four electronic devices to loan to patients, supporting their recovery.
"Communication challenges after a stroke are common and can lead to feelings of isolation," said a spokesperson for the service. "We combine face-to-face sessions with independent practice to help stroke survivors achieve their communication goals."
The devices, which aim to provide therapy in line with the National Clinical Guideline for Stroke, allow patients to access specialist applications that aim to improve language function and support their wellbeing.
"Apps are just one tool we use to support our patients, offering evidence-based techniques that they can practise outside of their appointments with speech and language therapy. "
The addition of these new devices enhances the care we can provide to our patients and their families. This support from Health Stars is made possible through fundraising events, salary giving schemes, and the Health Stars lottery.
