Health Stars funds new polo shirts for Trust’s volunteers

“I’m not sure that I would have had the self-belief to apply for my current role, if it wasn’t for the confidence I gained whilst volunteering in my uniform.”

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust are very lucky to have a fantastic team of volunteers who work hard to improve the services and enrich the lives of the patients and service users.

Thanks to the amazing support we receive from our fundraisers, we were able to fund Voluntary Services uniforms for the Trust’s volunteers.

“Many of our volunteers have been service users themselves. Oftenthey take on the voluntary role as part of their recovery process”, said Catherine Ceely, Voluntary Services Lead. “Before they start supporting our services they complete online NHS volunteer training.

“The aim of providing the volunteers with a uniform is to make them feel part of the wider team. It helps make their role more visible to our staff and patients and boosts their confidence”.

Emma Hunt, Voluntary Services Administration Assistant was a volunteer before she started working for the Trust. She said: “When I received my volunteer polo shirt along with my ID badge, I felt a sense of belonging.”

“Having been out of employment for several years due to ill health, it meant a huge amount to me to have an identity again.  When my confidence wasn’t great, wearing my uniform allowed me to play the role that I was volunteering in, and no-one knew that I was shaking inside. I’m not sure that I would have had the self-belief to apply for my current  role, if it wasn’t for the confidence I gained whilst volunteering in my uniform.”
