Hull Memory Clinic provides a specialist service for people of all ages, aiming to meet theneeds of people who are concerned they may have a memory problem.
The service’s multi-disciplinary team, qualified in diagnosing and treating memory problems, will comprehensively assess and diagnose the nature of a person's memory difficulties. Following a diagnosis, a range of treatment interventions can be offered to both individuals or group, and can include medication if necessary.
“We are piloting a new treatment intervention called Cognitive Stimulation Therapy,” said Sally Ford, Specialist Occupational Therapist. “The ten-week programmeisbeing offered to newly diagnosed dementia patients and covers a different theme each week. These are group therapy session which aim to stimulate memories and improve thinking skills to help patients cope better with memory loss.”
“For the group we needed resources such as games, dolls, music devices, and craft materials to help stimulate patients’ memories. For example, we requested a soundbar and CD player as music can be a powerful way to help people reconnect with their memories.”
“We contacted Health Stars who were able to fund these resources to help enhance patient care and improve their quality of life.”
