Voluntary Services Thank You to Health Stars

Voluntary Services (Humber NHS Foundation Trust) have been huge supporters of Health Stars since it’s launch in 2016. It is great to hear their feedback on some of their granted wishes.

They wished for an afternoon tea experience for the Baking Group, a small group supported by volunteers for people with memory problems to make some simple recipes and reminisce. “We thought it would be lovely to take the group out for afternoon tea in a nice setting to let them sample other people’s baking and have a change of scenery.”

Funded by the HEY Smile Foundation, Health Stars were able to organise afternoon tea for the Baking Group at Rowley Manor.

Sam Grey, Volunteer Coordinator, said “Thank you so much for organising…Rowley Manor went down a treat…the groups faces lit up when they walked in to the grand room and they’d all got dressed up. They were saying that it was a really special treat and they don’t have much chance to get their glad rags on nowadays.”

Voluntary Services also wished for a bird of prey experience for the Friendship Group, a group for adults with Learning Disabilities. Some members of the Friendship Group are socially isolated and do not have many opportunities available to them. Voluntary Services thought it would be great to take the group for a bird of prey experience with the Wolds Way Owl Trust as they would be very excited to experience something completely new.

Thanks to support from Sargent Electrical, Health Stars were able to grant this wish.

Sam said that the trip to the Wolds Way Owl Trust at South Cave “Falconry…was great and the weather was absolutely perfect. A couple of people didn’t want to leave and [one member] said it was one of her dreams to come to a place like this.”
